From Otis-Eric To Amy-Rosa, 8 Fictional Friendships That Could Star In The Remake Of ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’!

It is the first Sunday of August tomorrow, meaning it is Friendships Day! I remember during my teenage years, all my friends and I would gather and we would tie friendship bands to one another, and I am sure you must have done this, too. Now, it does sound naive that we would do it – going around calling each other our “best friends for life”. Growing up, some of those friends kept in touch while others showed their true colours. Friendships changed definitions as we all transitioned from childhood to adulthood. From deciding who was our best friend on the basis of how many chocolates they gave us on their birthday, to seeing who really has our back when we need them the most today, we all grew up.

I always thought watching shows, movies and reading books would show a fake side of friendship where things are all sunshine and rainbows! But that did not turn out to be the case. Watching TV shows, movies and reading books brought forward fictional friendships that will always have my heart. Even though the scenario is fictional and the characters are not real, some of these reel-life friendships felt more real than my real-life friends, to be honest! Many of these fictional bonds also gave a new dimension to what true friendships should be like. So, here are, in no particular order of importance, 8 of my favourite fictional friendships that will always remain iconic for me!

Sherlock and Dr Watson

Sherlock and Dr Watson’s friendship began on a very unusual note. From being introduced as flatmates to going on solving murders and mysteries together, their bond took flight and never halted. Sherlock and Dr Watson, are two of the classic mystery-solving partners ever created in the history of fiction!

Harry, Ron and Hermoine

If you are discussing fictional friendships, your list is never complete without mentioning Harry, Ron and Hermoine. This trio has seen death up and close, and yet have stuck by each other. They fought, argued and bantered but never left each other’s sides! Also, I heaved a sigh of relief to see that their bond was just the same in the movies as it was in the books. Their rapport did not get lost in translation and I am forever grateful to the movie-makers for that!

Liesel and Rudy

Markus Zusak’s book The Book Thief is one literary work of fiction that I will always consider a classic. Apart from giving me a terrible heartbreak and making me weep, the book also gave me my beloved Liesel and Rudy. Their friendship was forged in abnormal circumstances and as long as their bond lasted, they were mature, immature, strong, weak, broken and complete in their own way.

Miriam and Laila

What is it with me reading those books that I know are going to crush my soul and leave me sobbing after the book is over? That is just the power of words, I guess. A Thousand Splendid Suns, a masterpiece by Khaled Hosseini, is a book I will never be getting over. The circumstances under which Miriam and Laila become friends are goosebumps-inducing and they meet their fate is etched in my memory forever, and my heart aches for them to know what they went through.

Eric And Otis

Netflix’s series Sex Education is an all-in-one show that tackles sex problems, relationship problems, parents problems and friend problems. But what hooked instantly to the series was Eric and Otis’ friendship. We all know how toxic high school can be, thanks to Hollywood movies and series, it is super cute to see Eric and Otis navigate through it all!

Chandler and Joey

If FRIENDS is not popular for the storyline, then it is most definitely popular for Chandler and Joey, the two of the goofiest crackpots in the series! The bro-code that they communicate in is so on-point and extremely hilarious to watch! Plus, they understand each other’s humour which is far more important these days to consider in a friendship, don’t you think?

Rosa and Amy

Brooklyn 99‘s entire squad is a huge family in itself but Rosa and Amy’s bond will always have a special place in my heart. They are just such polar opposite personalities and yet they are tight, or more like TOIT! Not only do they have each other’s backs in the field but they do so in their personal lives as well!

Meredith and Cristina

I always will think that Cristina did not deserve Meredith’s friendship because she made her do things which Meredith wouldn’t have done had she just listened to her gut. But there have been times when they have watched out for each other in the boys’ department and shown the other person that they deserve more and better. It is only for this straightforward and no-BS bond that they have, I stan them as besties!

On a side note, Happy Friendships Day, y’ll!
