Elizabeth Olsen Will Not Have People Trivialising The MCU, Says, It Takes Away From The Crew’s Hard Work

For a while now, Elizabeth Olsen has been a very essential part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing the Scarlet Witch. Especially since the release of WandaVision in Disney+ which became extremely popular during the lockdown. She has also returned as the character in the recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen in a recent interview opened up about her feelings towards how the media treated her sisters, her role in MCU and her feelings about Marvel movies being trivialised.

After playing Wanda Maximoff in the 2015 Avengers sequel Age of Ultron and being a part of other MCU movies such as Captain America: Civil War; Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda became so popular that she was given her own show named WandaVision. Despite her success, Olsen has talked about how her rapidly increasing success has bewildered and surprised her. She said that as she was signed to do only a few movies, she was surprised when they wanted to do more projects with her. She further added that she got lucky with them wanting to do WandaVision.

Olsen talked about doing the press for WandaVision as it was the first show from the MCU. She says that she had the same feeling towards Doctor Strange. She admitted that she hasn’t even watched her own performances yet due to the pressure.

Olsen further detailed how her sisters have moulded her as a person and actor. For example, she discussed how they taught her that it’s okay to say ‘no’ to something and turn down things that make her uncomfortable. She said that adopting her sister’s mantra has helped her over the years. She talked about how she could have had some nuance in turning down things but she believes that it is important for young girls to have a voice and empower themselves with it.

When asked how she reacts to people like Martin Scorsese and The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola trivialising the MCU and Marvel movies as a whole. Olsen says that these comments do frustrate her. She says, “I’m not saying we’re making indie art films, but I just think it takes away from our crew, which bugs me,” according to the interview. She said that diminishing them is equivalent to diminishing the efforts of all those who work on award-winning movies and who also are a part of these projects. She says that while she understands the criticism from an actor’s perspective. She lastly adds, “I do think throwing Marvel under the bus takes away from the hundreds of very talented crew people. That’s where I get a little feisty about that.”
