Ahead Of ‘Brahmāstra’ Release Swara Bhasker, Sona Mohapatra Condemn Boycott, Protests Against Ranbir Kapoor. This Intolerance Needs To End!

It has been a day after Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji were stopped by the members of the Bajrang Dal from visiting and praying at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The trio was going in to pray for the success of their upcoming movie, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva which is one of the most awaited films of the year. And the protests that stopped them merely occurred because of Ranbir had once revealed that he eats beef. They kept asking him to remember ‘Nandi’ and respect Lord Shiva.

Apart from fans, several celebs also found this incident to be problematic. People took to social media to voice their support for the actor and express their displeasure over the incident. Sona Mohapatra and Swara Bhasker also spoke up about the same. This entirely insane and excessively violent protest against Ranbir Kapoor outside the temple was a tad bit too much. In fact, it was literally bordering on an assault which is why a lot of celebrities have opened up, to support the actor and the film.

Swara Bhasker took to Twitter and slammed the latest boycott trend. She also spoke about how all just seems to have turned into a means for a profitable business. Calling out the protest, the actress shared a screenshot of a tweet urging people to “not waste their money” on watching Brahmāstra. And TBH, she does have a point.

Sona Mohapatra has also taken to Twitter and reacted to a video of people protesting against Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Ayan Mukerji. She called it sick, dangerous and wrong. NGL but this mob-like behaviour is making it unsafe for celebrities to walk and work freely in our country. This intolerance is just crossing all like and this aggressive and violent behaviour makes us normal people also feel unsafe.

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji also spoke up about the same at a promotional event for Brahmāstra in Delhi. Expressing his feeling over the incident that unfolded at the place of worship, he said, “I was feeling bad that Ranbir and Alia could not come with me for Darshan to Mahakaleshwar temple. I had gone to Mahakaleshwar temple before my motion poster was released. And, I told to myself that I will definitely come here before the release of my film.” Alas, his wish was shattered by a couple of very dangerous and violent protesters from the Bajrang Dal.

While we do empathise with people and their religious beliefs, all of this could have been expressed in a non-violent manner. The fact that Ranbir Kapoor and a pregnant Alia Bhatt were at a place where things turned violent is extremely frightening. Moreover, this boycott trend is really getting too much now, isn’t it? I mean are we really going to boycott every single film over something or the other?
