Camila Cabello Reveals Her Struggles With Body Image Issues, Says Being Papped In Bikini Makes Her Feel ‘Super Vulnerable’

Women and their lives and bodies have been dictated by society for a long time now. They’re shamed for being too thin or too fat or for having ‘imperfect’ bodies. There’s a certain image that has been created by society as the ‘perfect’ body of a woman and if you don’t look flawless then you might as well brace yourself for all the absurd and nonsensical comments and unsolicited advice that is going to come your way. Now, imagine being a celeb in a world like this. Being in the public eye all the time, celebs are required to look flawless because they’re the ones setting an example for us. But that’s just the kind of pressure they do not need or deserve. While not many celebs talk about having body image issues due to the pressure, recently, singer Camila Cabello penned a note sharing her struggle with body image issues and feeling ‘vulnerable and unprepared’ about wearing bikinis in public due to the unrealistic image of a healthy woman’s body.

In a lengthy note shared by the singer on social media, she shared that the paparazzi always manage to catch her when she hits the Miami beach and she gets clicked in her bikini which always makes her feel ‘super vulnerable and unprepared’. Camila Cabello further shared that she has often worn bikinis without giving much thought to her looks and gotten papped only to see her pictures online and read comments and felt upset about it. The singer revealed that it often impacted her self-esteem but she reminded herself that what she was thinking are culture’s thoughts and not her own. Pointing out that our culture is engrossed in creating an unrealistic image of what a healthy woman’s body looks like, the singer said, “Photoshop, restrictive eating, over-exercising and choosing angles that make our bodies look different than how they are in the moment and in their natural form when we take a deep breath when we eat a meal when we allow the waves to tussle us around. I remind myself of this, listen to podcasts on intuitive eating, follow women who accept their cellulite, stretch marks, bellies, bloating, and weight fluctuations… and still.” She added that she is a single woman in her 20s in the middle of the celebrity culture which makes her feel the need to look good.

Speaking further Camila Cabello revealed that she actually bought a cute new bikini before hitting the beach, wore lip gloss and made sure to not eat anything heavy so as to look good in the pictures. She shared that she held her core so tight that her abs hurt and she could barely breathe or smile. She added that she couldn’t relax and enjoy her time at the beach. The singer said that she saw a group of young kids on the beach and saw how they were having fun without a care in the world and without worrying about their appearance. She went on to share that she felt that she would feel ‘accomplished’ after looking good in the pictures but instead, it only made her feel sad. The singer said that she has never had a worse time at a beach. “I wanted to talk about this because we see pictures of women and praise them for looking good, for looking fit or “healthy”, but what is health if you are so fixated on what your body looks like that you are mental health suffers and you can’t enjoy your life?” said Camila Cabello.
