‘Badhaai Do’ Trailer: We Have High Hopes From This Queer Comedy Of Errors Starring Rajkummar Rao And Bhumi Pednekar

Yesterday, January 24th, 2022, Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao released the poster of their upcoming movie – Badhaai Do. A movie that is supposed to be a sequel of the National award-winning movie Badhaai Ho starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, and Neena Gupta as leads. Looking at the poster, I wondered out loud if this movie will have any relation with the LGBTQ+ community because c’mon they made it as obvious as possible; and now that the trailer has been released, I can say I said so. The trailer of Badhaai Do just dropped and it is everything that I wished for and more.

Taking to their respective Instagram accounts, the actors – Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar – released the trailer of Badhaai Do and it is hilarious, to say the least. The first watch of it shows a story about a lesbian woman played by Bhumi who gets married to – wait for it – a gay man played by Rajkummar Rao, to get their parents off their back.

In the Badhaai Do trailer, Bhumi Pednekar aka Suman seems to be playing a PT teacher who is into women and hasn’t come out to her family about her sexuality. Whereas Rajkummar Rao plays a cop named Shardul Thakur that also hasn’t come out to society as a gay man. Both of them decide to get married to each other so that they can get their parents off their backs and can live the life they want to.

All in all, from the trailer it seems as though Badhaai Do is a comedy of errors drama that potentially tells a queer story set in a small-time. There is no doubt that their comic timing and expressions are enough to tickle your funny bone.

Honestly, I believe that most of the story is given away in the trailer itself. But I genuinely am curious and interested in seeing how the writers – Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary – decide to end the story. Well, I can’t wait for the movie that is set to release on February 11th, 2022.
