Malayalam Actor Ambika Rao, Of ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, Passes Away From Cardiac Arrest

In the past few years, a lot of celebs in India have passed away. These celebs have left a void that no one can ever fill. And now, another celebrity from India has passed away, leaving us with only her work to look back at. Yep, I’m talking about the Malayalam actor Ambika Rao. The actor who also has worked as an assistant director, recently passed away after she suffered from a cardiac arrest. She was 58 when she breathed her last breath in a private hospital in Ernakulam in Kochi.

On June 27, Monday, Ambika Rao, who is best known for her performance in Kumbalangi Nights, suffered from a cardiac arrest at around 10:30 at night. She was at a private hospital in Ernakulam undergoing treatment for Covid-19 when she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Needless to say, the death of the actress left her fans and colleagues in the Malayalam industry heartbroken. In fact, technicians and Malayalam movie stars took to social media to give their condolences to her. Prithviraj Sukumaran wrote, “Rest in peace Ambika Chechi”, and Kunchacko Boban penned down a heartfelt note, “Rest in everlasting peace Chechi… Ambika Rao”

As per reports, Ambika Rao entered the Malayalam movie industry as an assistant director in the movie Krishna Gopalakrishna which was helmed by Balachandra Menon and released in the year 2002. And it has been two decades since she’s been in the industry. She has worked as an assistant director for Mammootty starrers Thommanum Makkalum and Rajamanikyam, and Vellinakshatram starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. 

As for her acting career, Ambika Rao has acted in movies like Meesha Madhavan, Salt and Pepper, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, Thamasha, and Vellam. It was her performance in Kumbalangi Nights directed by Madhi C Narayanan that pushed her acting career. The movie also features Anna Ben and Grace Antony.
