20 Years Of K3G: Karan Johar Shares A Heartfelt Gratitude Video For Cast, Crew And Fans. Emotional Kar Diya!

Chandu ke chacha ne Chandu ki chachi ko chandni raat mein Chandni Chowk mein chaandi ki chamach se chatni chatayi. There was a time when we couldn’t say this five times faster. I mean, we were all Ladoos then, who have now, two decades later, become Rohans and can nail this tongue twister in one breath. Can you imagine though? It has been 20 years since Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham released? 20 years since we fell in love with Rahul, laughed at Anjali breaking the gamla (vase), wanted to be every bit dramatic as the iconic Poo, and began copying Yashvardhan Raichand’s dancing style on Shava Shava! With K3G, Karan Johar and his Dharma Productions definitely gave us a memorable film for the books, with a heavyweight cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

And even now, 20 years later, it still is all about loving this emotional yet hilarious family entertainer that gave us a feminist icon like Poo, a lover like Rahul, a sibling love like Rohan’s for his elder bro, and a firecracker like Anjali. And it also taught a very rigid Indian society the lesson that parents need to let their children love whoever they want because they waste entire lifetimes of happiness when they put their egos and pride and honour before their children’s happiness.

In honour of 20 years of K3G, many celebs, including some of the additional cast, has been sharing reels on Instagram recreating scenes from the movie. Johnny Lever and his son shared one on that hilarious ‘Kahaan Gaye?’ scene.

But I think my favourite was the one Alia Bhatt recreated with Ranveer Singh and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and the people on the sets of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, another Karan Johar film they’re shooting for right now. And Poo herself reshared it!

But this morning, on December 14, which is actually the day when Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham completes 20 years since its release in 2021, director Karan Johar has shared a heartwarming video that might just make every K3G fan emotional.

The video begins with a young KJo shouting “Action!” and we seem glimpses of the film’s making, starting from the scene where Poo, in her red hot outfit is about to leave home for prom in two different shoes! Watching the film’s making and scenes of course makes you want to take chhutti from work, curl up in bed and watch the movie (and yes, chhutti toh lena padega, runtime dekha hai na!). But it is the voiceover by Karan Johar as he thanks the actors, and the heads of each of the different departments—Farah Khan for choreography, Sharmishtha Roy for production design, Manish Malhotra for the iconic costumes, Kiran Deohans for cinematography, and Jatin-Lalit, Sandesh Shandilya and the late Aadesh Shrivastava for the memorable music album.

And finally, when a video of the late Yash Johar talking about how the film’s tagline “It’s all about loving your parents” is his favourite thing about his son’s film, plays up, the emotions all well up.

Truly a film that even now when it comes on TV, you simply have to plonk on the sofa and watch, as your family or friends one by one join you, unable to resist the sheer warmth and entertainment of a true blue Bollywood entertainer. It’s not just us Indians though. Even internationally, the film and its music is much loved and celebrated; remember when those Indonesians fans recreated Bole Chudiyaan?

Happy 20 years of K3G, to KJo, the cast and crew, and of course, all of us fans!
