Alia Bhatt’s Diwali Outfit Has A Beautiful Story Behind It. It Supported 35 Children And 13 Karigars Who Worked On It For 4 Months During The Pandemic
Festivals are all about glamming up to the nines and wearing gorgeous outfits and Diwali is no different. Every year, bringing the A-game with extravagant Diwali outfits is the top most priority for us and celebrities alike. However, this time, a celebrity used fashion, her Diwali outfit, to be precise, to support local craft, education and suitability and left us amazed. Instead of going through all the pomp of process of picking the most beautiful and elaborate designer outfit like every year, Alia Bhatt chose to take a stand for sustainable fashion and ‘Education For All’ campaign by wearing a handmade and organic piece designed by schoolchildren. Not only that, her Diwali outfit gave employment to 13 artisans who went through a rough time during lockdown.
Alia Bhatt did her part and celebrated Diwali in its true spirits by wearing a beautiful pink lehenga that not only employed 13 karigars who struggled for work during the pandemic but also featured designs by 35 children who attend Art of Living free schools whose creations represented the beauty of our planet. Plus, it was entirely made of waste fabric and thus supported sustainable fashion too. The pink lehenga was from Madhurya Creations also had the names of the little artists who contributed to the design embroidered on a panel on the lehenga.

Alia Bhatt posted a picture in the outfit and wrote, “This Diwali I wanted to do something different, instead I wore something different…This lehenga is a labour of love of so many amazing people – the children of AOL free schools whose names are embroidered on it and karigars who worked across many months. Wishing you all a very Happy Diwali and hope everyone’s in the pink of health, just like my outfit.” Her lehenga celebrated Diwali and Children’s day and promotes sustainable fashion in the true sense, and we love it.
The lehenga is a gorgeous pastel pink ensemble with colourful motifs on children’s drawings on each panel of the skirt. Alia Madhurya Creations shared on their page, “Thank you @aliaabhatt for giving us the opportunity to create this beautiful work of art for you. Starting from the 35 children who made the designs, to the 13 craftsmen who embroidered and tailored it… It was a memorable journey! Wishing you the very best always, and a Happy Diwali – Team #Madhurya.” The beautiful artwork by the children and exquisite embroidery work by the artisans is what makes this Diwali lehenga super special and thoughtful.
The doodles by the children was collectively named ‘My Beautiful Planet’ which included different elements from Earth’s ecosystem. The dupatta also had the words of song Ae Watan from Alia’s movie Raazi embroidered on it. “My Beautiful Planet” – is a collection of drawings made by 35 children studying in free schools of AOL. Each panel of the lehenga represents a part of our beautiful #earth – the two poles, deserts, seas, oceans, waterfalls, tropical rainforests, river-beds and even our Solar system! Furthermore, the lehenga is made from 100% waste fabric, and it helped 13 karigars get work during the 4 most rough months of the pandemic. This year has been the least celebratory and merciless to say the least. We were locked in our homes, people lost jobs, families struggled to make ends meet, hundreds of children had to give up education because of financial restraints and loved ones were lost in the hands of a cruel virus. Although Diwali posed to be one occasion in months that was worth celebrating, this year’s festival was nothing like before.
What we needed was to burst less crackers and spend those bucks on help the needy during these tough times this year. And, it was great to see how some people celebrated it more consciously and empathetically towards those who had a tough time during the lockdown phase by donating food and clothes and making their Diwali a tad bit happier.
Celebrity outfits, especially festive looks, are extensively papped and talked about and this could be a great opportunity for them to speak in support of a social cause through fashion. Alia Bhatt did it by wearing a gorgeous pink lehenga to support the important causes and providing an opportunity and a platform to local craftsmen to show their art and also months of steady work and income. This was absolutely amazing!
