Deal With A Flaky Winter Scalp The Smart Way
You know winter is here when your skin starts feeling stretched and dry. What’s more, a winter-induced flaky scalp is another giveaway of the changing season. It’s your body’s way of telling you that you need to up your skin and hair care game. Despite these very obvious indications though, many girls still wash their hair everyday. The cold, dry air coupled with over-washing and sulphate-laden shampoos can wreak havoc on your scalp. What’s more, very often a flaky scalp is confused for dandruff, which is actually not the same thing. And treating your hair for dandruff when it’s the flaky situation you should be addressing can aggravate the issue further.
Guilty as charged? Then pure tea tree oil is your saviour. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory and works like a dream on dry, itchy scalps. However, since it’s an essential oil, you can’t use it on its own. Dilute it in a carrier oil like jojoba, coconut, olive or avocado oil and you are good to go. Mix 4-5 drops of tea tree essential oil in 2-3 tablespoons of a carrier oil of your choice, then gently massage it into your scalp and leave it overnight, or two hours at the very least. Wash it off with a sulphate-free shampoo.
