Like every other make-up addict, I have my favourite go-to make-up looks – the kind that never fail me or ones that I can do in a pinch. So while I love the good old cat eye and wear it pretty often, I am always scouting for inspiration to up my cat eye game. Not that it gets boring, but what’s the point of make-up if you can’t have fun with it, right?
So you know how everyone insists on playing up only one feature at a time? I think it’s all in the balance. When I felt like doing dark plum lips this morning, I knew that I didn’t want to go with a bare eye look; neither did I want to do a winged tip liner. So… I just shifted the placement of my cat eye instead.

Step 1
I haven’t tried the cut-crease eyeshadow technique yet, so I used an eyeliner instead. Take a nude lip or eye pencil and trace a line along the crease of your eyelid. I didn’t want it to be dramatic, so I only drew one till the centre of my eyeball.
Step 2
Tracing the line with a nude pencil first versus an eyeliner makes sense since it’s easier to clean if you make a mistake. Once you have done this, you can go over the line with black eyeliner. I used L’Oréal Paris Super Liner 24 Hour Waterproof Gel Eyeliner. The trick here is to draw a thin line over your crease and thicken the cat eye as you go outwards.
Step 3
Two coats of Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara is about as much drama as I can handle for the day.
Step 4
‘Tis the season of brows, so I’m not going anywhere without grooming them. I brushed them in place and set them with some clear mascara. Maybelline New York Great Lash Clear Mascara for Lash and Brow works fine for me.
Step 5
I worked in a teeny bit of City Color Cheek Stain in Coral on my cheekbones.
Step 6
I applied a coat of Diana Of London 2000 Kisses Wonderful Lipstick in Red Rose and dabbed it off on a tissue before it dried out completely.
