From Strawberry Legs To Dark Circles, We Need To Stop Treating Normal Skin Like Problem. Period!

Every time we open social media, there seems to be a new beauty insecurity waiting for us. And it’s not even something major that needs medical attention. Things like strawberry legs, dark circles, pores, uneven skin tone, and body hair are treated like problems that need fixing. People have become obsessed with not looking like their favourite influencer or celebrity who seems to have the best skin. But this problem starts much earlier, especially during our teenage years, when we are still figuring out how we feel about our bodies.

The Issue Starts Here

Beauty trends have always found new ways to make women feel insecure about themselves. Previously, it was being too dark, too fat, having body hair or not having a certain body shape. These days, the beauty industry and social media have intensified it. Those before-and-after videos can make us think that every part of our face and body needs to be flawless. But the funny part is that the more we talk about embracing natural beauty, the more things we seem to add to the list of imperfections. Even before social media, beauty standards were being marketed to us through advertisements that constantly told us what we should look like. The reality is that it often starts at home. Such comments from family about appearance can affect one’s mind and in turn, make them insecure about themselves.

Perfection Is An Illusion

It’s high time people understood that perfection is an illusion. In fact, it is what we call “imperfections” that actually make people beautiful. And trust us, feeling confident in yourself and learning to embrace who you are is not a linear journey. There will be days when you feel insecure, and that is completely okay. You are human, after all. It’s important to redirect those thoughts because the problem is not our skin but the impossible standard we have been taught to compare it with.
