hauterrfly Rating: 3.5 / 5

Festival is all about togetherness and family time. But in today’s day and age, that may not be an option for everyone. No wonder, festivities do not feel the same anymore. Dilwali Diwali on Netflix is a reminder that being together with family, especially on such occasions, is of utmost importance; the rest everything can wait. The film stars Mihir Ahuja, Manoj Pahwa, Neelu Kohli and Aurra Bhatnagar-Badoni. It’s directed by Ritesh Menon. Read our review here.

Plot

Dilwali Diwali’s story revolves around the Sikka family. Ansh Sikka (Mihir Ahuja) works in Norway, but is unaware of the truth that his parents (Manoj Pahwa and Neelu Kohli) and sister (Aurra Bhatnagar-Badoni) do not stay in the lavish flat he bought for them. When the Sikka family learns that their son is coming on Diwali, they quickly shift to their new flat. They pretend to be happy in their new home, and well, even Ansh comes with a motive. However, this 1-hour film ends on a sweet note when the family learns to communicate and come clean to each other.

Story

It’s a very short movie, but the messaging is heartfelt and crisp. The movie touches upon very sensitive topics like family, relationships, and how things change with time. It weaves the story of a middle-class family very effectively. A son who wants to give his family the best life, but also has his own selfish motives. Parents and sister are having a hard time adjusting to the new lifestyle and their strong attachment to home. The wishes of a mother who is torn between her husband and son, but finally chooses herself as well. There is no melodrama in this story, and each point is delivered with clarity. But there is no compromise on emotions.
