Actress Regina Cassandra did not hold back while sharing her take on the “North-South divide” and calling out Karan Johar. She shared her honest opinion on what Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte had to say about their experiences working in the South Indian film industry. What Did Regina Cassandra Say?
During her conversation with India Today, Regina Cassandra seemingly pointed at Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte stating that if they feel uncomfortable, they should walk out to the film. The actress expressed not thinking that one should be put in a place where they say they didn’t have a choice. She clarified that this was not against a man or a woman. Regina stated that as a woman, it is very easy for her to take sides and that she will obviously take the side of the woman. She added, “I don’t think any of us today, especially the examples that you gave, I don’t think either of them are in a place where they can’t walk out a film, especially being who they are.”
Further she called out Karan Johar and accused his production company for ignoring her during the Kesari 2 promotions. She played Akshay Kumar’s onscreen wife in the film. Regina stated that she has a big issue with when a North Indian actor talks about South Indian cinema like that because they are making a “North-South divide” without one even realising it and that’s absolutely wrong. The actress mentioned Janhvi speaking out about being objectified on Karan Johar’s show. She alleged that Dharma Production decided not to promote her in Kesari 2. Regina questioned what was she supposed to call that? “Objectifying what? That I’m a South-Indian?” She expressed not knowing why the production company allegedly made this move. The actress stated that the said film’s song featuring her was shared on Instagram but they didn’t tag her.
What Did Radhika Apte and Janhvi Kapoor say?
Janhvi Kapoor recently appeared on Karan Johar’s show Koffee with Karan, during which she addressed the controversy surrounding objectification of her character in Peddi. She stated that she was navigating how to make things less problematic as and when information was becoming available to her. Janhvi added that in the South film industry, very rarely there is a bound script and very rarely do you see the camera angles. She shared that she should have taken advantage of her privilege, adding that it was a violating experience in a way. As far as Radhika Apte goes, she reportedly spoke about the working in a Telugu film in which she played a woman who gets married to her maternal uncle and called it the most challenging film and that she hated everything about it.
