World Asteroid Day: This Indian Woman Scientist Working At NASA Has An Asteroid Named After Her!
This is huge!

Indian women are making the country proud in today’s time. And their works are also being recognised by the world so much so that asteroids are being named after them. Such recognitions become more special when an individual is one of the only few to achieve it. On World Asteroid Day, Indians received great news about one of the women scientists at NASA getting an asteroid named after her. She is Rutu Parekh, a planetary geologist.
On World Asteroid Day, Rutu Parekh, a planetary geologist was honoured for her achievements in the respective field. As per some media reports, an asteroid was renamed after the geologist’s name. Rutu Parekh is currently working as a post-doctoral researcher at NASA in the USA. She completed her graduation degree from St. Xaviers College and then went on to pursue M.Sc from the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University. In fact, she did a double master’s, and the second degree was from the University of Bristol, UK.

Over the years, Rutu Parekh has also worked in the Department of Geosciences, in India. She has also served as an academic associate at CEPT University in Ahmedabad. Rutu Parekh has been a co-author in many of the published papers in her field.

Apart from Rutu Parekh, there were other Indian scientists too who were recognised on World Asteroid Day. This list includes the names of Kumar Venkatramani and Aswin Sekhar among others.
It is always great to see an Indian woman achieve such a feat on a global level. This will certainly open more opportunities for her. We hope she keeps making the country proud always!
