Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Could Be The Most Underpaid Cricketer In IPL History

IPL 2026 team Rajasthan Royals (RR) ended their season in the third place, but one of their biggest highlights was the rise of the 15-year-old batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. After a disappointing 2025 season, the team made an incredible comeback and reached some memorable heights. He delivered a record-breaking campaign that has completely changed conversations around his value in the league.

About Rajasthan Royal’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Across 16 matches, the teenager scored 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 238 and an average of 48.5. He smashed 72 sixes and 63 fours, becoming one of the most destructive batters of the tournament. His explosive knocks of 97 off 29 balls in the Eliminator and 96 off 47 balls in Qualifier 2 further cemented his reputation as one of IPL 2026’s biggest stars.

As per HT, Sooryavanshi’s performances were worth nearly Rs 35 crore in terms of on-field impact, despite Rajasthan Royals retaining him for just Rs 1.1 crore. According to the report’s valuation model, he delivered one of the highest returns on investment in the tournament and is currently viewed as the IPL’s most underpaid player. However, the report notes that this figure is not a prediction of what franchises would bid for him at auction.

Since he remains an uncapped player, Rajasthan can still retain him under the league’s current rules. Even so, experts believe his open-market value could realistically fall between Rs 20 crore and Rs 25 crore, with the possibility of a bidding war pushing it even higher. With records tumbling and fans already comparing his rise to some of sport’s brightest young stars, Sooryavanshi’s breakout season has made him one of cricket’s most exciting prospects.
