An unfortunate incident made headlines on September 17 after India lost a true gem, Gita Mehta. The author and journalist passed away at the age of 80. Gita Mehta has a lot of achievements and empowering deeds in her name as she inspired many women during her work as a journalist, and then with her books. She took her last breath at her home in New Delhi and the reason for her death is reportedly old age. The author was Orissa CM Naveen Patanaik’s elder sister and was from an influential family.

News Of Her Death

Author and journalist Gita Mehta’s death due to old age problems made headlines on September 17, Sunday. The well-known author passed away on September 16, Saturday at her home in New Delhi. Married to American publisher Sonny Mehta, the author is only survived by her son, Aditya Singh Mehta. After the news of her death broke, many politicians and personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their condolences to the family members and expressed grief over her passing away.

Who Was Gita Mehta

An eminent journalist and author of five books, Gita Mehta has achieved some commendable feats in her life. During her life as a journalist, she worked for NBC, an American television channel. Gita Mehta also turned a filmmaker when she made a thrilling documentary on the Bangladesh Liberation War 1971, titled Dateline Bangladesh. She rose to fame with this documentary after it hit the theatres in India and the United States. Gita Mehta as the author has written 5 books, and Karma Cola and A River Sutra became some of her well-known works. Her books were also translated into 21 different languages. On the personal, Gita Mehta was the daughter of a politician and activist Biju Patnaik, and her younger brother Naveen Patnaik is the current Chief Minister of Orissa.
