Meet Rayyana Barnawi, Saudi Arabia’s First Female Astronaut Set To Go To Space!

It is no secret that women from Saudi Arabia have to face a lot of restrictions in terms of their rights. We keep hearing news about how stringent law enforcement is for women there. And this is lead to a lot of stereotypes in the minds of people globally. But it is women like Rayyana Barnawi who break glass ceilings to make a great name for themselves and their country. Rayyana becomes the first Arab female who will have gone into space. An Arab national Ali Al-Qarni. who is a jet plane pilot, will also accompany her on this mission which is said to be 10 days long. As per reports, Rayyana Barnawi is 33 years old and a biomedical researcher by profession who has nine years’ worth of experience in cancer research. She finished her Bachelor’s degree at Otago University in New Zealand, and she studied Masters’ at Alfaisal University in Riyadh. Rayaana has a key role to play in the space mission she will be going for and will have to conduct experiments in space. She and Ali Al-Qarni will dock at the International Space Station. Rayaana Barnawi is going to fly into space in SpaceX’s Falcon 9.

This space mission is said to be a joint venture between Saudi Arabia and a US-based company called Axiom. Rayyana will be flying into space as a part of the Saudi Human Spaceflight Program. Two more astronauts, Mariam Fardous and Ali Al-Gamdi are also going to be a part of this mission.
