The New Pope has been selected, and this confirmation was received after white smoke was seen coming out of the Sistine Chapel chimney in the Vatican. The successor of Pope Francis is Cardinal Robert Prevost, and he will be known as Pope Leo XIV. The new Pope is the first American citizen to hold this post. Who Is The New Pope?
The New Pope has been elected to head the Catholic Church, and this news made headlines on May 8. Cardinal Robert Prevost has been chosen as the successor of the late Pope Francis, and the first image of him also surfaced on the internet. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV and is the first American to hold this position. As per the news reports, the new Pope holds two citizenships- the US and Peru. The 69-year-old Pope hails from Chicago, and he has a Mathematics degree that he pursued from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He has also studied Psychology. He also studied Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
Pope Leo XIV was elected as the Provincial Prior of the Augustinian Province of “Mother of Good Counsel” which is located in Chicago. He also became the director of formation at the Saint Augustine Convent in 2013. In 2015, he was selected to serve as the Bishop of Chiclayo and was appointed to the position by Pope Francis. In 2024, he became the Diaconate of Saint Monica and in 2025, he received the title of Suburbicarian Church of Albano.
