However, it was first discovered in 2016 on Pinterest after the original artwork had been deleted. In early October 2025, social media users started posting the picture and adding relatable captions.

The captions were commonly in regard to romantic relationships and the process of “ageing out” of certain hobbies, activities or character traits. A GIF version of the rabbit meme, originally from the 2010 live-action Alice in Wonderland film, also got very popular.
Multiple versions of the meme also started popping up with artists drawing it in their own art styles. TikTok user @sleepytimephonk posted their artwork featuring the White Rabbit trapped in a jar.
