The ongoing IPL season has sparked several controversies. Everyone’s favourite team, the Mumbai Indians, will not be qualifying for the finals this year. Another controversy that grabbed eyeballs is the strict rules that the BCCI has made for the cricketers regarding partners accompanying them during the matches. This was brought into play after the risks of a honey trap, about which the cricket players have also received an advisory. But what exactly is that? Read on to know more about it.
What is A honey trap?
Okay, so this happens when someone close, mostly a partner, manipulates the other into sharing some deep secrets and then leaking it. This concept has reportedly crept into the IPL world, and the BCCI has issued a strict advisory against the same. In the IPL context, a honey trap is defined as any person, whether it be a social media fan or an admirer, who tries to engage s*xually and romantically with a cricket player and then get some very confidential information out of them. This can also happen through blackmailing the other party with intimate pictures, which can also lead to risks of betting.
What Has BCCI Done About It?
As per the news reports, the BCCI has released an eight-page advisory for the players and has also listed some strict rules. The BCCI has restricted entry to a player’s room, even for close relatives. This would only be allowed after the team manager has given permission for it. This rule was put in place after noticing that, in many incidents, the team manager was unaware that someone was in the cricketer’s hotel room. The guests would only be allowed to meet in public areas. Many rules have been listed for the franchise owners, too. These new BCCI rules entirely focus on preventing honey traps in the Indian Premier League.
