BCCI About IPL’s Girlfriend Culture
A Dainik Jagran report suggests that the BCCI has taken note of cricketers like Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Arshdeep Singh, and Yashaswi Jaiswal, who are often spotted with their girlfriends. While the board does not have an issue with them dating, they are not okay with their partners staying and travelling with the team. In many cases, partners also travel separately to cities to be with the players.
They said, “When a BCCI official raised the issue with a member of the Anti-Corruption Unit, the representative said they are not permitted to object to wives and ‘official girlfriends. ‘ When the board questioned the term “official girlfriend’, the member said that is what they had been instructed.” After India’s loss in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI has brought in some strict rules, like a tour lasting more than 45 days means a cricketer’s family could accompany him only for a week.

Having said that, the board is ready to spring into action, and it is yet to be known if this policy will apply to Indian cricketers outside the IPL as well. Reportedly, the BCCI can also look into the players’ activities when they play for India, but doing the same in the IPL is more difficult due to the involvement of 10 franchises. The board is concerned about the effects that girlfriends travelling with the cricketers could have on their professionalism.
