“He Tried To Kill Me, Blackmail Me”, Shraddha Walkar In Her Letter To Police 2 Years Back. Even After This, No Action Was Taken By Police, Why?

Why this incompetence?

“He Tried To Kill Me, Blackmail Me”, Shraddha Walkar In Her Letter To Police 2 Years Back. Even After This, No Action Was Taken By Police, Why?

Many horrifying crimes against women that make headlines in our country also highlight many core problems. They bring out the loopholes present in the different departments like justice and police, particularly. The brutal Delhi murder crime of Shraddha Walkar by her live-in partner, Aaftab Poonawala has brought to light a major problem in how the police handle complaints of domestic violence. The recent development in the case has revealed that approximately two years back Shraddha Walkar had written a letter to the police, in which she shared her torturous ordeal, yet the police did not follow up with it. Why?

The Shraddha Walkar murder case is just getting more and more disturbing with every detail that is coming out every day. Now, in the recent update, there are reports that reveal a letter that the victim had written to the Maharashtra police. As per the news, the investigators of the case have mentioned a letter written by Shraddha Walkar on November 23, 2020, and it had details about the violence and pain inflicted on her by Aaftab Poonawala. She wrote that Aaftab blackmailed her into not disclosing the incident to anyone and that the primary suspect had strangled and hit her too, as per the news. And the most shocking part is that it was around this time that she shared a picture of her injured face with her co-worker Karan.

Shraddha Walkar in the letter had also shared that she could not approach the police because she was scared Aaftab would hurt her. The woman was suffering from this for six months, and it was clearly written in the letter, yet no concrete action was taken.

This information is unsettling and frightening. Why wasn’t she given any security despite her best efforts to contact the police? Why was the police ignorant of this complaint? She confessed to being afraid of her partner, which may be why she was unable to physically present herself to the police. This demonstrates the police’s incapacity to handle such violent crimes against women. The police are unable to comprehend how a woman feels in such circumstances or why she lacks the courage to stand up for what is right. At this point, the police should at the very least try to get involved to give the woman a sense of empowerment. They could possibly follow up with the complainant or at the very least conduct some routine checks. The police can send female constables to provide some kind of assistance and advice to women stuck in these situations. It is sad that there are lives that could be saved yet due to negligence in the system, we fail to save them.
