Women leaders in our country are breaking into top leadership positions and that is great news for all of us. Well, speaking of women leaders, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently nominated Rekha Gupta for the post of Delhi’s Mayor. Here’s everything you need to know about the BJP member and Delhi Mayor candidate.

Who Is Rekha Gupta?

Rekha Gupta is the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha and also the general secretary of Delhi BJP. Previously, she served as the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. The BJP member graduated from Delhi’s Daulat Ram College. She served as the President and General Secretary of the Delhi University Students’ Union in the year 1996 to 1997. Gupta has participated in many important events that were organised by the Delhi BJP organisation.

Rekha Gupta is a three-time councillor from the Shalimar Bagh block. The party had mentioned that the Mayor’s post was an open post after the results of the Municipal Corporation Delhi elections were out. On Tuesday, they nominated Rekha Gupta as their candidate on the last day of filing the nominations.
Rekha Gupta is nominated in this election against AAP’s Shelly Oberoi. The party nominated the first-time councillor from Delhi’s East for the post of Mayor of Delhi. Oberoi was a visiting professor at Delhi University and has won a civic body election as well.

Gupta has a stronghold in the Pitampura area of North Delhi. She was a councillor in that area for the year 2007 to 2012. The Delhi Mayoral election is scheduled to be held in January 2023.
