Mrunal Thakur, Chinmayi Sripada Support Rashmika Mandanna In Deepfake Video Controversy, Demand Awareness Campaigns

Rashmika Mandanna’s viral deepfake video created an outrage on social media. The Pushpa fame actress issued an official statement on the matter and called it ‘extremely scary’. Her Goodbye co-star Amitabh Bachchan also came out in support of her and called for legal action on the case. Now other actors from the film fraternity have also broken their silence on the incident and have strongly criticised it. Mrunal Thakur is one of them. Here’s what the Sita Ramam actress said.

Mrunal Thakur On Rashmika Mandanna’s Deepfake Video

On October 6, Mrunal Thakur took to her Instagram account to write a lengthy note on Rashmika Mandanna’s widely circulated deepfake video. She slammed the people for such shameful acts and expressed disappointment over the conscience left in these people. The Sita Ramam actress hailed Rashmika for taking a stand against a raging issue that everyone saw but still chose to not speak about. She highlighted the problem of morphed videos and pictures of the actresses on social media and questioned the mindset of the people behind it. In her recent statement,  Mrunal Thakur also said, “We may be actresses but at the end of the day we are humans.” Mrunal urged everyone to raise their voices against it and talk about it!

Chinmayi Sripada

Singer Chinmayi Sripada is known for her fearless opinion on Twitter. She too backed Rashmika Madanna and tweeted her thoughts on the matter. Chinmayi first highlighted a similar case that happened with the South Indian actress Simran whose deepfake video on the Kaavala song was shared on social media. She then went on to express her concerns about Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video and called attention to the misuse of AI to harass girls and extort money. Chinmayi Sripada further highlighted the scary aspects of these Deepfake videos and how loan borrowers use them to blackmail young women in small towns and villages. She also mentioned that many people do not know how to identify deepfake pictures and can easily fall into the trap. Chinmayi Sripada requested authorities to take the initiative to raise awareness about deepfakes and how they can harm women.

Rashmika Mandanna thanked singer Chinmayi Sripada for her support and hoped that the efforts would lead to stricter actions against the culprits.

A journalist on Twitter shared the original video to explain to people how Rashmika Mandanna’s face was edited. Amitabh Bachchan reposted it on his Twitter handle and demanded legal action.
