President Murmu Calls for More Female Officers in MES! Yes, Please!

A job in the military is never deemed fit for a woman. This gender bias has prevailed in the military sector for a very long time now. But things are starting to change as we are hearing news of women breaking glass ceilings and securing spots in the army, navy and air force. Recently, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the trainees at the Military Engineer Services (MES) and said that there need to be more female officers in the MES as well. She called for women’s empowerment in the MES sector as the other defence sectors have done so!

As per reports, President Murmu was called on by the MES where she addressed the new trainees. While talking about women’s empowerment, she said she would like to emphasise the need to have more female officers in the MES. She also said that in recent times, there has been increased participation by women in the armed forces.

President Droupadi Murmu further said that a great push has been given to women’s participation in the defence forces, be it in combative capacities or medical roles. She, then, said that she hopes this ‘positive’ change will be seen in the MES as well.

Last year, President Murmu spoke at Mizoram University and said that girls’ education will make them eligible for jobs, and will also cause a rise in their participation in the workforce. She also showered praise on the university for the steps they were taking to ensure women’s education. Madam President particularly lauded the hostels built by the University for tribal girls and also took notice of the equal boys-girls ratio in its last session.
