Pakistani Dad Schools Reporter On Women’s Rights At Aurat March. We Need More Such Feminist Allies!

International Women’s Day is observed in a grand manner in Pakistan with a woman’s March called Aurat march. This march is an annual demonstration held in cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. This year an art installation from the Aurat March made headlines for highlighting sexual harassment on the streets and now a father has made headlines for schooling a journalist who forgot to do his homework before questioning people at the Aurat March.

In a viral video from the Aurat March, a Pakistani dad schooled a reporter for being uninformed and asking the wrong question. In the video shared by a feminist activist, the reporter asked her father the reason behind the Aurat March and asked him what rights are women seeking. In response the father hit out at the journalist for failing to do his research and reading the moment of the Aurat March that is held every year. Further, the man schooled the reporter on how laws in Pakistan are actually against women and affect them while adding that women have much lesser representation in the every field. The man also called out the reporter for asking him an educational question despite being and educated man who is representing a channel. Take a look at this viral video.

The Pakistani father has won the internet by being a feminist ally who did not just stand in the sidelines but also called out a journalist for failing to do his job. Tweeple can’t stop praising this father for joining his daughter at the Aurat March and teaching a much needed lesson to the reports about women’s rights.

Earlier, an art installation called Chalein Auraton Ki Chaal put up a walkthrough for people to pass through that gives them an experience of what it’s like to be a woman walking on the streets. The art installation is a tunnel that plays recordings of men catcalling and eve-teasing women as they walk on the streets. That’s one hell of a way to show people what it’s like to be a woman in this male-dominated world.

Having said that, this world needs more fathers like this man. Fathers across the globe need to take a page out of his book and become feminist allies to support their daughters in order to build a safer world for women. And we also need more such women’s marches and art installations to give people a reality check.
