Oscars 2023: Internet Says, “Bohot Bada Paap” As Jimmy Kimmel Calls ‘RRR’ A Bollywood Film!
Twitter has called out Jimmy's ignorance!

Every time the Oscar Awards ceremony goes live, chaos and drama ensue, right? And it looks like the goof-ups done by Academy Awards hosts have gone down in history as some of the biggest ‘oops’ moments. Last year, it was Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock that shook the internet, this year it was Jimmy Kimmel who earned the ire of the keyboard warriors! In his not-so-impressive monologue, he ended up calling the SS Rajamouli directorial, RRR, a Bollywood film! Yes, I heard you gasp because I let out one myself after hearing this. Twitter users have ganged up to call out Jimmy on his mistake, and we are with them.

Toward the end of his monologue, Jimmy Kimmel was escorted off the stage by a group of dancers who performed the hook step of the ‘Naatu Naatu’ song. Up ahead in the ceremony, Jimmy also called the SS Rajamoui magnum opus a Bollywood film. Fans were quick to take note of this and share the same on Twitter.

Desi Twitter users have taken offence over the generalisation of the entire Indian film industry into being collectively called Bollywood. One of the users wrote that no matter how many times the makers say that it is not a Bollywood film, people will fail to distinguish between Indian content, while another user tagged Kimmel and corrected him saying that RRR is a Tollywood movie and not a Bollywood one! People were pissed at Kimmel’s ignorance.
Jimmy Kimmel mentioned #RRR as a ‘Bollywood Film’ in his opening monologue at the #Oscars.
No Matter how much the makers say it is not a Bollywood movie. They failed to understand that any Indian content will always be called Bollywood worldwide.— Anurag Kumar Singh (@anuragkrsingh68) March 13, 2023

Hey @jimmykimmel @TheAcademy #RRR is a #Tollywood Or #Telugu film and not Bollywood. Please make sure you are aware of the distinction

Call me a party pooper but if host Jimmy Kimmel says #RRR is a Bollywood movie, I ain't taking these goras seriously. Happy for Keeravani & Rajamouli, they deserve the recognition but I'm not going over the moon.

Twitterati’s angry response is quite understandable because it shows how the west fails to look beyond Bollywood. RRR, a Telugu film, which is repeatedly clarified by the makers on the stage as well, is getting an Oscar. The least Jimmy could do is pay attention or someone from backstage could have given him a cue.

Just because the west is not as diversified as India is, it does not mean they will club all languages and cultures together for their convenience!
