Neeraj Pandey Responds To Maithili Thakur’s ‘Safe In Bihar’ Remarks After Jamui Incident; Says Everyone Has Different Experiences

In recent events, writer Neeraj Pandey has slammed Bihar MLA Maithili Thakur for defending the state’s law and order crisis after the incident involving two minors in Jamui. For the unversed, the two teenagers were stopped and harassed by a group of men who even shared a video of this incident. The writer-lyricist questioned the politician, stating that everyone has had different experiences in the state which might not be similar to hers.

Neeraj Pandey took to his Instagram on Wednesday, September 23, and shared a long note addressing Maithili Thakur’s statement about her feeling safe in Bihar. He said that it was good that her experience was such, but Bihar was not the same for everyone. The writer, who also hails from Bihar, added that he had never felt safe in the state growing up, even as a man. He said that Thakur’s experience and comfort did not account for everyone and that the reality of a society should be asked of the people on the receiving end of these situations.

The writer of Happy Patel further spoke about the horror incident of Jamui and told Maithili to ask that minor girl. He said that one’s homeland is not always the land for fairy tales but the place where we get trauma for life. Neeraj ended the note by saying that one day he would write this all down in a book. On September 19, a group of men stopped two teenagers in class 10th in Bihar’s Jamui after they were coming back from a local tourist spot. They started making vulgar comments and slapping the boy while s*xually assaulting the girl as the two pleaded for help.

After this, Maithili Thakur, the current Member of Legislative Assembly for the Alinagar constituency, said that this did not reflect on the state’s safety and that she felt safe in Bihar. This triggered nationwide outrage.
