Maha Men Initiate ‘Bridegroom Morcha’ To Showcase Sex Ratio Imbalance
Rebels with a cause!

You know, every individual waits for the day when they meet their true love and get married to them in the most dreamy wedding ceremony ever. That sounds so romantic, not gonna lie. But what if you couldn’t find a partner for yourself? Well, seems like young people living in Maharashtra are currently facing this issue and they have some hilarious but unique solutions for it. Several young, unmarried men dressed in wedding outfits initiated a march to demand brides for themselves and raise the issue of the skewed female-male sex ratio in Maharastra.
In Maharashtra’s Solapur district, several bachelors dressed in sherwani, riding horses, and accompanied by band music reached the collector’s office to demand brides for themselves. On Wednesday, they initiated a march called ‘bridegroom morcha’ to raise the issue of the skewed male-female sex ratio. The bridegroom morcha reportedly showcases the sex ratio imbalance in Maharashtra. The members also submitted a memorandum to the district collector’s office in order to seek strict implementation of the PCPNDT Act, also called the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act to improve the sex ratio in the state. They are rebels with a cause!

The memorandum also mentioned that the state government must arrange brides for all the young men who participated in the morcha.
Ramesh Baraskar is the founder of the Jyoti Kranti Parishad, which organised the march. He said that people might mock the bridegroom morcha but the grim reality is that youth of marriageable age are not able to find partners and he blamed the skewed male-female ratio in the state for it. Baraskar also mentioned that Maharashtra’s sex ratio was 889 girls per 1,000 boys. He further claimed that inequality exists because of female foeticide and the government is responsible for this disparity.
