Explained: Did Arshdeep Singh Make A Racist Remark Towards Tilak Varma? All You Need To Know!
Recently, PBKS's Arshdeep Singh came under fire for allegedly making a racist comment towards MI's Tilak Varma.
IPL is one of the biggest sports tournaments in the world and there’s no doubt about it. From powerful hitting to smart bowling, it keeps fans hooked till the very last ball. However, sometimes things off the field also create a buzz online. Recently, PBKS’s Arshdeep Singh came under fire for allegedly making a racist comment towards MI’s Tilak Varma. The incident has ignited a huge debate on social media platforms. Read on to know all about the controversy.
It all began after Arshdeep Singh posted a Snapchat video on May 14. In the clip, the Punjab Kings bowler was seen talking to Mumbai Indians player Tilak Varma. Arshdeep looked at Tilak and said, “Oye Andhere, sunscreen lagaaya?” which means “Hey dark one, did you put on sunscreen?” He then pointed at Naman Dhir and called him the “real Noor” meaning the fair and bright one from Punjab.
Honestly, this is ridiculous. Arshdeep singh is clearly mocking Tilak Varma in this video.
One day this kind of behaviour on social media is going to put him in a really tough spot. Yuzi Chahal is the perfect example of how quickly things can backfire. 😬 pic.twitter.com/FxB4EADF4E— Vipin Tiwari (@Vipintiwari952) May 14, 2026
The video spread like wildfire, and many people got angry. They said the comment was wrong and showed clear racism. Soon, former cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan criticised Arshdeep Singh. He said such remarks should not be called “just fun” or “team jokes”. He added that young players often keep quiet because of team pressure and that cricket is now a serious profession, not just a game.
As of now, Tilak Varma or Arshdeep Singh has not publicly commented on the matter so far. However, it has raised a conversation on racism, colourism, and dressing room culture in Indian cricket. Fans are now waiting to see if the BCCI or IPL authorities will take any action against the player.
This is not the first time the Punjab Kings bowler has been in the news this season. Earlier, one of his vlogs reportedly showed teammate Yuzvendra Chahal involved in a vaping incident, which also raised questions.
