Who Is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Purple Cap Leader, Who Helped RCB Qualify For IPL 2026 Playoffs?

It is official! RCB has become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs after defeating PBKS on May 17. The match was a close fight but the defending champions showed great fighting spirit and left fans over the moon. While it was a complete team effort, the star of the night was Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In a paisa-wasool match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar shone brightly once again. He picked up the wicket of Priyansh Arya early in the game. This special dismissal helped him achieve a huge milestone. He became the first Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in the first over of T20 matches. Worldwide, he is now the fourth bowler to reach this mark.

Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi tops the list with 64 wickets in the first over. England’s David Willey is next with 63, followed by former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir with 52.

The 36-year-old right-arm pacer was born on February 5, 1990, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Known as the “Swing King”, he is famous for bowling smartly, especially in the death overs. He currently plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL and for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket.

Bhuvneshwar has had a fantastic IPL journey. He is the only bowler in league history to win the Purple Cap in two back-to-back seasons, which were 2016 and 2017, while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He also holds the record for the most dot balls bowled in IPL history.
