Gujarat Giants Captain Beth Mooney Out Of WPL 2023 Due To Injury, This Player Will Replace Her

The first-ever Women’s Premier League 2023 has begun. The opening match was played between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. The latter team defeated Gujarat Giants by 141 runs. However, there was a bigger loss that the team incurred when captain, Beth Mooney got injured during the match. As per recent reports, it has been announced that Beth Mooney will no longer play the inaugural WPL and the player also released an official statement on it.

Beth Mooney is a popular Australian cricketer who was leading Gujarat Giants in the first-ever Women’s Premiere League 2023. However, in an unfortunate incident during the match against Mumbai Indians, she had a calf strain while batting. As advised by the doctors, the injury might take up to 4-6 weeks to recover, and therefore she had to opt out of the tournament.

Beth Mooney in an official statement expressed her emotions about not being able to play the inaugural WPL which she was really looking forward to. The cricketer also accepted that injuries are a part of the sports and cannot be escaped but extended her best wishes to Gujarat Giants for all their future matches with hopes that they would win the trophy too. Beth Mooney’s note ended on a positive note as she hoped to come back in the next WPL healthier, fitter and hungrier!

Now that she is no longer the skipper, her place has been filled by Laura Wolvaardt, who is a South African opener.

The entire country has been looking forward to the inaugural WPL and it had a bang-on opening ceremony too. Indian actors like Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon performed live on the ground.
