In a somber turn of events, the television industry mourns the loss of one of its beloved actors, Dinesh Phadnis, who breathed his last at the age of 57. Known for his iconic portrayal of Fredericks in the long-running TV show CID, Dinesh succumbed to multiple organ failure on Tuesday. The news was confirmed by his CID co-actor Dayanand Shetty, who played the character of Daya on the same show.

Dinesh Phadnis had been on a ventilator since Sunday, grappling with serious health issues, particularly liver damage. Shetty shared the unfortunate details, stating, “There were a lot of complications, and he was removed from the ventilator last night.” The actor passed away at 12.08 am, marking the end of a chapter in the Indian television industry. Initially reported as a cardiac arrest, Shetty clarified that it was, in fact, liver damage that led to Dinesh’s hospitalization. The actor was receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital, where his health condition took a critical turn, resulting in the decision to remove him from the ventilator.

Dinesh Phadnis had etched his name in the hearts of millions with his portrayal of Fredericks in CID, a show that became synonymous with crime-solving on Indian television. The series first aired in 1998 and enjoyed a successful two-decade run on Sony TV. Beyond his television success, Dinesh also made appearances on the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and played supporting roles in Bollywood movies such as Super 30 and Sarfarosh.
