Last week, the court found former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal guilty in a 2013 r*pe case. He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, and now his daughter has addressed her father’s conviction. She has strongly reacted to the reactions that came in after Tarun Tejpal’s punishment. In her statement, Cara called it a “miscarriage of justice.” Read here to know more about it.
What Did Tarun Tejpal’s Daughter Say About Conviction?
Tarun Tejpal’s daughter Cara has strongly reacted to the celebrations around her father’s conviction in the r*pe case of a former junior colleague. Tarun Tejpal’s daughter said that despite the several pieces of evidence and the acquittal, injustice was delivered for her father. She further quoted the local court’s judgement that had acquitted Tarun Tejpal in the r*pe case. According to the post by Cara Tejpal, the honourable lady judge had examined all the evidence, and the sessions court ultimately acquitted the former Tehelka editor. Cara further added that the 13 years of nightmare continue for them, and also spoke about the constant stress from the backlash on social media, and the emotional consequences of the verdict. She also opined that the verdict was a ‘political vendetta’ because ‘nailing a powerful man’ was more satisfying than finding the truth.
She also reacted to the two emails by her father to the victim, which were considered proof of the crime. According to Cara, these emails did nothing to prove that her father was guilty of the crime. As per her, the first email had no specific words to suggest that Tarun Tejpal had made a confession of the crime, and as for the second email, Cara said that it was sent to the entire Tehelka office, but it wasn’t written by her father. The note further said that the email was written by the Managing Editor of Tehelka to address the complaint and provide closure on the matter. Cara said that these were also proven in the sessions court.

In the long note, she spoke about the celebrations made on the conviction and how it hurt her deeply. She reiterated her opinion on how the verdict was not just despite the several pieces of evidence that suggest her father had not committed a crime. She also spoke about the scary thought of sending her father to jail to serve 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. She ended the note by talking about friends and family who are supporting them in these times.
