Sakshi Malik On Dealing With Periods As Athletes
Once in an interview, Mary Kom revealed that she was playing the match during her periods. Similarly, Sakshi Malik revealed going through the same. She stated, “Many times, it is uncountable! It used to come during training and there were many main tournaments where I was in periods. But, one gets used to it. I have been training that in practice. How to move my body and how we have to prepare when I am on my period. Like, first we have to keep a heat bag and we have to prepare the body and stretch properly. If we are having pain then we have to drink coffee. So, the hotter things you consume, the more relief you will get.”
Furthermore, she added “Luckily, I am not one of those athletes who have ever taken rest during periods. It depends on the body, some have more pain while some have less pain. Lucky for me, I get less pain so I could manage and there are many tournaments I have played during periods. There have been leaks as well and I used to feel scared too. So, there was too much pressure and it was tough to focus on one thing. There’s also fear of getting blood on the costume, so all these things keep going on!”
