S*xual harassment cases in wrestling have sparked strong protests led by wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and others. Many athletes came together to demand justice and better protection for female wrestlers. Several female athletes have spoken out about their experiences and the need for a safer environment. Sakshi Malik States Reasons Why Women Quit Wrestling
On being asked whether Sakshi Malik noticed that after a certain age, many girls drop out of sports due to different reasons. She stated, “Actually, only a few girls used to come. After coming, it’s difficult to take such a step back but in one case it could be. Due to harassment, many might have stepped back or due to injuries. Like, in our time there were no such facilities, there were no physios and there were no sports equipment. So, if there was an injury then they used to step back. ” It’s such a harsh and sad reality women have to go through.

Furthermore, she also talked about how society doesn’t encourage women to play sports rather they discourage women and bring them down. Sakshi Malik also revealed how people raised questions like “What is the benefit of an Olympic medal and what’s the benefit of protesting on the streets?” The former wrestler also revealed how since there was no change after protesting, she made the tough decision of leaving.
