Ex-IPS Officers, Judges Write To President To Oppose Same-Sex Marriage, Call Homosexuality “Irrational”
Irrational much?Ever since the hearing of the batch of petitions seeking legalisation of same-sex marriage has begun in the Supreme Court, it has started a heated debate about the topic across the country. While many people are coming out in support of same-sex marriage, others are vehemently opposing the same due to “Indian values” and “morality”. Wonder where this morality was when the LGBTQ+ community was being wronged! The latest guardians of Indian culture and morality are a group of former judges, former IPS officers and former Bureaucrats. In an open letter written to President Droupadi Murmu, the group has sought an “intervention” to save “Indian culture, traditions, religious tenets and social values”.

As per media reports, the group of former IPS officers, former judges and former bureaucrats wrote to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu and claimed that if same-marriage is legalised then it will “open the doors to same-sex sexual culture”. Further, the group has stated that Indian society and culture do not accept same-sex “behavioural institutions” while calling it “offensive” to Indian values. Erm, who is going to tell them that homosexuality is not a behavioural institution but just sexual orientation? But guess what? They made things much worse. The group also called homosexuality “irrational” and “unnatural”. The only thing irrational and unnatural is this absolutely absurd letter written by educated people who have served this country. Not only is that sad but it’s also shameful.

In the letter, the group also claimed that same-sex relationships can’t create “stable or long-term institutions”. Of course, not. Only heterosexual couples have long-term and stable institutions based on the oppression of one gender. Surprise, surprise. The group has also taken a stand against allowing same-sex couples from adopting kids as they cannot maintain stable and long-lasting relationships with their families. How about we teach families to not disown their kids for having a sexual orientation or gender identity that they do not agree with or understand? Maybe acceptance might help the cause.
"It is widely appreciated that same-sex relationship can’t create long-term or stable institutions; and if they are allowed to adopt children, they can’t maintain stable and long-lasting relationships with their families, parents, relatives and partners. The health and future of…

The letter further states that this can affect the health and future of the kids which in turn will affect the future generation which will produce more gays and lesbians. Umm, did someone not tell them that homosexuality is not a disease that is passed on to other generations? But I do agree, this will produce more homosexual people. Do you know why? Because then we’ll create a society where they will feel safe to be openly gay and lesbian and won’t be forced to stay closeted and marry a person of the opposite gender to save themselves from social ostracisation.
"India cannot afford that its future generations live in such an atmosphere, which surely will produce more gays and lesbians, and tear apart and destroy the institutions of ‘family’ and ‘society’ irreparably. They won’t know about their parents, ancestors, culture, religious…

TBH, I don’t think our future generations need to know about how we oppressed the LGBTQ+ community and violated their fundamental rights in the name of culture, traditions and so-called family values that haven’t done our society any good. As an LGBTQ+ ally, I firmly stand in support of the community as they fight for their most basic fundamental right to marry a partner of their choice irrespective of gender. Love is after all blind. And NGL but chosen family is much better than blood relations. And it’s time we stop holding onto the old, regressive, orthodox and irrational values and move forward with time to create a safe society for our future generations.
