“Does This Look Pornography?” Edward Snowden Bashes Twitter For Locking Wife’s Account
Nothing wrong with the picture tho!

Social media platforms are very particular about the kind of posts that go up on them. If something goes against their policy, they immediately put it down. While most of the time they are right on their part when they take such calls, some of their decisions also turn out to be questionable too. Recently, Edward Snowden, an ex-American official raised a similar question for Twitter and owner Elon Musk after the platform locked his wife’s account for posting a naked picture of her with her baby. The questions also started a conversation on Twitter on whether or not the picture was problematic.

Edward Snowden is known to be vocal about his unapologetic opinions and he very directly raised questions over Twitter’s ban on his wife’s account. He also shared the picture over which the social media platform initiated this process. It is a picture of his wife holding their baby. Edward Snowden tagged Elon Musk in his tweet and asked on what basis was the picture considered to be a “Pornographic” one.

In another tweet, Edward Snowden called Instagram “Spineless” and pointed out that even the photo-sharing app, did not consider it to be problematic. He then went ahead to ask if the picture in question had any kind of element that is obscene.
Twitter just locked my wife @lsjourneys's account for an ancient baby photo that even *spineless Instagram* had no problem with. Do parents need to worry? Are baby butts, happy bath photos, etc. banworthy now? pic.twitter.com/DtRFdDXuHg

I think that picture is lovely!

Baby bath photos, never understood the need to post that online.

Users also expressed the growing business of child pornography and how it is not really right to share close-up shots of babies. And gave it as one of the reasons for the mistaken ban of his wife’s account.
Sounds like they need to tweak the algorithm. It seems it can not distinguish between the artistic photos and those that are truly pornographic.

I remember @elonmusk Tweeting awhile back that there is a ZERO tolerance for child pornography. Your wife’s picture may have been as such. That’s the problem with Ai et al; It can not differentiate between an wholesome photo, and pornography when nudity is involved.

Well, this could very well be an algorithmic issue of the social media handle or a technical glitch. However, her account still remains locked for use. There is nothing really problematic about the picture though. The picture is a representation of a mother’s love and cares for her child and it has been shot beautifully.
