In a shocking news piece today, Shakeel Noorani, known for directing Joru Ka Ghulam and more, was reportedly arrested by Malvani police in connection to alleged r*pe and s*xual assault against a 33-year-old female actor. The accused was reportedly traced to a farmhouse in Satara and arrested on August 8 before being brought to Mumbai. Know major details about the case below.
Why Was Shakeel Noorani Arrested?
As per a report by Mid-Day, a 33-year-old female actor alleged that Shakeel Noorani called her to his Malvani house under the pretext of discussing an upcoming film. He has been accused of s*xual assault, administering a sedative and threatening the woman with an alleged video. The report states that the woman met him back in 2016 at an award show in Lokhandwala. There, he allegedly asked her to connect with him to discuss his next project. The woman reportedly alleged in the FIR that she visited his Malvani residence to read a script. She claimed that Shakeel gave her a drink, after which she fell unconscious. The director has been accused of threatening to circulate a video that he allegedly recorded and warned her not to contact police or reveal this to her family. The actor reportedly alleged that he used the video to threaten her more and s*xually assault her multiple times on multiple occasions. Additionally, the report mentioned that Shakeel also allegedly gave her contraceptive pills repeatedly after the alleged s*xual assaults. The woman reportedly returned to Mumbai in 2026 while seeking financial help for medical treatment.

Details About His Arrest
The Malvani police have registered a case under Sections 64 (2)(M), 123, 351 (2) and 88 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, police have sought Shakeel’s custody to investigate the case and ascertain where the alleged crime happened at other locations. As per the report, the Borivali holiday court has remanded the director in police custody till August 12.
