BJP MP Scolds Woman Vendor For Not Putting “Bindi” At A Woman’s Day Event. Inka Basics Hi Clear Nahi Hai!
Aate kahan se hain ye log?

Sometimes no matter how hard you try to fight back against regressive ideas of people, you will never be able to end it entirely. Such a conservative and patriarchal mindset is rooted in some people that they fail to understand that the world is changing now. Recently, a BJP leader from Karnataka certainly fits under the above-mentioned category of people. He is making headlines for scolding a woman because she was not wearing a Bindi! It sounds ridiculous, however, this is also a reality in the country right now. And he said THIS at a Women’s Day event, imagine!

Basically, Bindi is a dot that a woman puts on her forehead, and this is a practice done mandatorily by a married woman in India. However, that’s not the case anymore, as it is a choice now! But BJP leader, S Muniswamy, an MP from Karnataka’s Kolar district does not understand the word choice, as he felt right to publicly scold a woman at a “Women’s Day” event for not wearing a Bindi. He went ahead to remind the woman that she has a husband and should therefore put Bindi. The woman was a vendor in a local shop and the BJP MP also questioned her common sense for not wearing a Bindi, as per the news.

In this digital world, such acts are quickly captured and circulated on social media, and it also happened in this case. The BJP MP received a severe backlash, especially from people of the opposition party.

There are so many problematic things in this situation. How can the BJP leader take the right to scold the woman publicly for something he clearly does not have a say in? This is also a prime example of how strong a patriarchal system is when men think that it’s absolutely right to call out women if they are particularly not fitting the mould that men have made for them.
