In a recent turn of events in the Amravati case, four more people have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged circulation of explicit content online. The charges also include s*xual exploitation of minors, making the total number of arrests in this case eight. The Amravati (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Visha Anand stated that the investigation was still underway. Read to know more about the case here.
More Arrested In Amravati Case
As quoted in The Times of India, the main accused out of these eight was Ayan Ahmed, who lured these women and recorded these s*xual acts while others had them in their phones and even made them viral. The SP said that he took the victims to many locations to s*xually abuse them and shoot this process. They were also taken to a hill station located in Chikhaldara and to different cafes in different towns. Reports suggest that all the accused phones have been seized, and a house search led to the discovery of a laptop, a hard disk and a tablet.
All these electronics have been sent to the forensic science laboratory, where they will extract data. Anand denied a communal dimension to the case and verified that all eight survivors identified so far are Muslims. However, it remains unclear whether all or some are juveniles. Anand said, “We need to confirm their age at the time of the crime. Despite police reaching out to them through women officers, none of the survivors or their family members has yet filed a formal complaint.”
The police officer also called out the internet, which pegged that there were almost 200 victims while stating that there had just been 8 till now. There is no attempt to reduce the number of victims or assist the accused. That’s why I speak with the media every day to maintain transparency. Six personnel from Paratwada police station have been shifted to the control room, and an inquiry has been launched against them after some organisations alleged they could influence the investigation. When the tapes first went public, several front organisations said that the cops were unwilling to listen.
