Many other tourists were also confronted and harassed by the same group. Later, the footage of this incident spread across social media. Reports suggested that the motive behind their harassment was objections over “Western clothing” like shorts and sleeveless ensembles. The accused, while justifying this, stated that it was against the cultural ideas followed around the fort. The Haveli police station of Pune quickly identified the group and brought the accused to the station. This incident led to cases against eight people on charges of assault, unlawful grouping, and criminal intimidation. The group also had three women.
