The cases of assaults against women and girls are rising. One of them happened in Baruipur, where an 11-year-old girl was r*pe and killed. The crime came to light when the girl’s body was found in a pond. The police immediately got into action, and three suspects were arrested for the alleged crime. As per the latest updates on the same, one of the accused was shot in an encounter with the police. Read on for more.

Was The Accused Shot In An Encounter?

As per the latest news reports, the Baruipur police informed that one of the key suspects in the r*pe case of an 11-year-old girl was killed in an encounter. As per The Hindu report, the police were taking the key suspect to Suryapur for the recreation of the crime scene. The accused, identified as Prabhas Mondal, reportedly tried to snatch a police officer’s gun in an attempt to escape, and he even fired one round at the police team, as per the report. The police retaliated, and the accused was injured in crossfire. As per the police, he was immediately taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. According to the Superintendent of Baruipur Police District, Palash Chandra Dali, this incident happened right before the recreation of the crime scene could even take place.

How Did The Police Arrest The Key Accused?

Prabhas Mondal, one of the key accused in the crime, had allegedly kidnapped the girl, assaulted her, and thrown her in the pond. According to the investigation, CCTV footage also surfaced in which the man was seen with the girl child.

Have There Been More Arrests?

Police have arrested four people for the alleged crime. They have been booked under the POCSO Act. Apart from Mondal, others have been identified as Ananda Sardar, Dibakar Sardar and Kabir Mollah.
