Shows like Game Of Thrones and House of the Dragon have always been very open and direct when it comes to depicting bold sex scenes. They are filled with controversial sex scenes like sex in brothels, in public places, incest, inter-species sexual relations and various displays of kinky sex practices. So, it’s very common for these shows to explore various kinks and fetishes in the course of their story and honestly, these sexual displays actually end up being very pivotal to the plot too. Such an incident occurred recently on HOTD when a transactional relationship is revealed between Larys Strong and Queen Alicent. He shared some important rumours with Alicent in exchange for her showing him her feet to which, he masturbated.

Fans seem to have reacted very strongly and vigorously to this kinky display of foot fetish. Many stood up against this display and expressed their dismay at the scene on Twitter. The scene has already been mocked and has been converted into various memes. But, this massive reaction is only leading to one thing i.e. kink shaming. Fans who have been enjoying other sexual scenes through the series have now, visibly been kink-shaming Larys Strong for his foot fetish. And we have a problem.

According to me, this scene was extremely essential because it displays a feeling of power exchange. Larys Strong is literally forcing the most powerful woman in Westeros to degrade herself for him and by making her stay in the room while he pleasures himself, he’s making her follow in the footsteps of the system that is built by men and is clearly doing it for power over her along with the pleasure with his foot fetish, of course. It reiterates the point that Princess Rhaenys later points i.e. the queen continues to settle for a system built by men because she seems to imagine no other option. So, this is a pivotal scene which has been reduced to mockery, jokes and memes. I genuinely think this is mainly occurring because of the narrative that the kink has been set in and of course, the fact that people simply do not understand foot fetish as a kink.

To put it simply, it’s easy to mock the stuff that one cannot understand but, it’s way harder to look behind the veil of mockery and try to understand it. This ‘easy way out’ attitude needs to change so that we want to be able to create a kink and sex-positive society, doesn’t it? Let’s start here and now, as we understand foot fetish as a kink.

What is A Foot Fetish And Why Do People Have Them?

If we were asked to make a list of the sexiest body parts that can turn people on, I doubt feet would land at the top of everyone’s list. But, when it comes to the people with foot fetish, they do end up at the top. This is because they’re turned on by various aspects of feet, toes, and ankles. A foot fetish can take various forms, some people like worshipping, licking and sniffing feet, whereas others prefer to massage and touch them. On the other hand, some people love to paint toes, decorate feet and adorn them with jewellery, such as anklets or toe rings etc.

The bottom line is that these are all valid ways of expressing sexual interest towards other people’s feet which are, of course, healthy as well as normal. Furthermore, they are way more common than you might believe. You would be surprised by how much of the population is into feet. Having a foot fetish doesn’t make you weird, deviant, or destined to be alone, there are in fact, a lot of people who love having their feet touched, massaged, and worshipped. So you can easily and consensually explore your kink and have some fun.

According to Dr Justin Lehmiller, the author of Tell Me What You Want, “Fetishes are a multi-sensory experience. Different people might find very different things arousing about their fetish objects. In the case of feet, it’s more about the visual aspect for some, but for others it may be about sniffing, licking, or otherwise touching feet, including using them during sexual penetration.”

Every person develops these fetishes for different reasons but they are mostly, learned behaviours which are motivated by learned thoughts in the early development phase of our lives. Although, the rest of the job is done by erotica or porn, of course.

It’s essential to learn more about these kinks and fetishes and explore them instead of mocking people who choose to do so. Isn’t it about time that we stop with the memes and start to appreciate sexual expression in all its glory? This is the only way to create a sex-positive, kink-positive and inclusive world for all of us.
