‘The Male Feminist’ Ep 8: Here’s What Shweta Tripathi Believes Marriage Should Look Like. She’s Got A Point!
Let's not make marriage a big deal!
In our Indian society, a woman or even a man is required to get married at a certain age. Especially, when they cross the bar of 30, they are hit with all kinds of questions about their marriages. And, I don’t think anybody has yet decoded the reason for it. Even actor Shweta Tripathi, popularly known as Battatawada on social media had to go through this phase, nonetheless, she decided to take her own way. In the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, Shweta shared her experience of marrying in the late 30s and the kind of societal pressures she faced. Most importantly, we should note that Shweta Tripathi clearly mentioned the importance of maintaining individuality even after marriage.

In conversation with The Male Feminist, Siddhaarth Alambayan, Shweta Tripathi spoke about the pressures society puts on an individual for marriage. She shared that there were many people who used to ask about her marriage when she turned 30. Shweta was always confused about the fact that what is more important, marrying the right person or marrying at a certain age as per societal norms. Well, nobody has an answer to that, I feel.

Furthermore, the actress also said that she understands the biological changes that people go through after an age. However, that should not be the criteria for marrying anyone. She points out that society, relatives, or even friends are not concerned about what happens after the wedding, so for an individual, it is essential to marry for themselves and not others.

Personally, the point that I liked was when Shweta Tripathi also added that partners should respect each other’s dreams, and give space. Just because they are married does not mean that they lose their individuality. It is vital to living for oneself since we all just have one life.
