Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata Review: The Kangana Ranaut Film Tells An Important Story But Its Impact Doesn’t Linger!
hauterrfly Rating: 2.5 / 5

Kangana Ranaut is back on the big screen with a new film titled Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. It is directed by Manoj Tapadia and stars Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, and Esha Dey in lead roles. The film is inspired by true events and shows the untold story of how the nurses and hospital staff at Cama Hospital saved around 400 lives during the Mumbai terror attack. It’s an important one and is told in all honesty, and here’s a quick review if you plan to watch it.

Plot

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is inspired by real-life incidents of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack at various places in South Bombay. This is based on the events that unfolded at Mumbai’s Cama Hospital after two terrorists attacked the place. The film hugely focuses on the bravery of the nurses who saved many lives, including pregnant women and children. The narrative establishes the basic and everyday personal and professional lives of the nurses, played by Kangana Ranaut (Sita), Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Esha Dey, Prieya L. Berde, and Rasika Agashe. The character of a senior and selfish nurse is played by Suhita Thatte. The role of a Medical Superintendent is played by Asha Shelar Chandorkar. The second half is all about how the nurses and medical staff keep the patients safe, and amid that, how the nurses continue to do their duty of protecting a child’s life or getting a critical pregnant woman to the OTT for the baby to be delivered.

Story

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata certainly brings an important story to the forefront. The movie, on many levels, becomes a reminder of how the duty of a nurse is taken for granted, how casual remarks consider them less efficient than doctors or the battles they fight on the personal front. While these moments do not particularly have a strong impact, they do make you think a little in that moment. Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata attempts to bring back the forgotten contribution of the nurses and hospital staff during such tough times, which did not make many headlines and when our warriors in the white uniform selflessly did their duty even on the war front.

The film has hearty moments when depicting casual and fun interactions of the nurses, but it also puts equal focus on showcasing the details of the haunting night.

Performances

Kangana Ranaut yet again delivers an effortless performance. In the first half, the actor pulls off the charming, bold, and unintentionally funny character like a piece of cake, and with the same nuance, she conveys the heavier emotions. Girija Oak is quite delightful, but she blends seamlessly when the character demands serious emotions. Smita Dey particularly impressed me with her character arc in the film. She plays a no-nonsense nurse who loves Shayaris, but the actor absolutely blows your mind when the tone of the film shifts. It’s like this character is totally a changed person! The supporting cast is also decent.

Impact!

The story of Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is important, but the storytelling only has a lasting impact in bits and moments. When the situation escalates in the second half of the film, some scenes really keep you on the edge. Other times, the impact of these scenes or dialogues is present in those fleeting moments.

Some unnecessarily dramatic moments towards the end; also, the monologue needed better execution.

Background Score

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata does not bring a very memorable album to the forefront.

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is a decent watch with honest performances by the cast. The film may not linger in your memory for long, but it still manages to move you at several key moments. The Kangana Ranaut film will hit theatres on June 12.
