Indian Boxers Nitu and Manisha Box Their Way To The Quater Finals Of World Boxing Championships

For those unversed, currently, the Women’s World Boxing Championships are being held in Istanbul. And two of India’s female boxers – Nitu and Manisha – have qualified for the quater finals. Yep, Nitu (48kg), who made her debut at the World Championships, won a comprehensive 5-0 win over Spain’s Marta Lopez Del Arbol. While Manisha got a 4-1 win over Bulgaria’s Svetlana Staneva to advance to the featherweight quater finals.

Nitu, a 21-year-old boxer and two-time Youth World Champion, clearly dominated the entire match on Saturday using her technical skills and long reach to win and proceed to the last-eight stage. Now, on Monday, the national champion will face Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan in the quarter finals of the Women’s World Boxing Championships.

As per reports, the 2019 Asian Championships bronze medalist, Manisha went through a draining, messy match that saw a fair share of tumbling, holding, and clinching in the ring. However, the 24-year-old pulled through and secured a spot in the quarter finals of the Women’s World Boxing Championships where she will fight Mongolia’s Namuun Monkhor, Youth World bronze medalist, on Monday.

Other than these two, there are six other Indian female boxers who will be in action in their respective rounds at the Women’s World Boxing Championships on Sunday – Zareen (52kg), Shiksha (54kg), Parveen, Anamika (50kg), Jaisminw (60kg), and Ankushita (66kg).
