Woman Sets Father On Fire After Having Dinner With Him For Revenge. He Used To Assault Her

Admittedly, society is not kind to us women. And while the atrocities on roads and in public spaces get captured on phones and could go viral, it’s the danger lurking at home- the supposed safe spaces – where women suffer silently behind closed doors. Most statistics say that in most cases of violence against women, the perpetrator is often someone known to them. Disgruntled lovers, fathers trying to protect their honour, all feature in this list.

But the thing about bottled emotions coming out is that they often come out in the most ugly and unimaginable ways possible. Like in this case for instance, where a woman took her father out for dinner, got him drunk and then set him on fire. Reason? He would sexually assault her as a kid, and now as an adult too. And she had had enough of it.

The chilling incident that was caught on CCTV footage showed how the woman poured kerosene on her passed out father in front of the banks of the Hooghly river and burnt him to death. The woman, who has been arrested by the police, has also confessed to the crime of killing her father.

The woman went out with her father to dinner to a restaurant on Sunday night and got him drunk. After finishing dinner, the two then went to the Chadpal Ghat on Strand Road for a stroll, as reported by a senior police officer. When her 56-year-old father fell asleep on a bench on the banks of Hooghly river, the woman set him on fire.

The woman has been identified as a resident of Christopher Road near Park Circus and was taken into custody after a complaint lodged by her uncle. The officer investigating the matter shared, “During interrogation, she claimed that after her mother died when she was a child, her father started physically assaulting her and also used to torture her emotionally. However, it stopped after she got married. But, as her marriage broke off and she returned home, the torture started again.”

The claims are still being looked into by the police and for now, the woman has been taken into custody. While we feel for her, in the way that dealing with your own parent exploiting you can leave you with an unsurmountable trauma, we still don’t advocate taking matters into your own hands to the point of taking someone’s life. However, this might be an eye opener for all those who feel women continue to be silent victims. Not anymore.
