Maharashtra Woman Branded As A Witch, Stripped And Paraded Naked By Locals. Yet Another Woman Brutalised By Superstition

We live in the 21st century and yet there are crimes committed against women that are based on our superstitious beliefs. Don’t believe me? Well, let me give you some stats. Between 2016 and 2020 there were more than 94 women who were murdered because people believe that they were witched. Yep, and if you thought things have changed in the last 2 years, I have an incident to prove otherwise. In yet another witch-hunting incident, a woman who was labelled as a witch was stripped naked and made to parade around town. Ugh, this is disgusting!

A woman from Nandurbar district, Maharashtra, was accused of being a witch and so as a punishment, the locals stripped the woman and made her parade naked around the locality. All of this because they thought she was a witch.

The video wherein the woman who is labelled as a witch is made to strip and walk around naked has gone viral on social media. In fact, taking cognizance of the video, the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS) has appealed to the district administration of Nandurbar to investigate the matter. The reports suggest that even the police are looking into the video and the incident.

I can’t believe that even in this day and age, there are people who believe in such things. Now, I’m not saying don’t believe in it – each to its own – I’m just saying that keep your beliefs to yourself. Don’t act violently or abusively towards someone (especially women and kids) because you suspect them of wrongdoing based on your beliefs.
