Woman Builds Temple For Dead Husband, Offers Prayers To His Idol

We have time and again heard the dialogue “pati parmeshwar hota hai.” And I used to always laugh and wonder which woman actually thought this line to be true? I mean I always believed that this was an exaggeration of the feeling of love. But this one woman in Andhra Pradesh proved me wrong. Completely. How you ask, well this Andhra woman built a temple for her dead husband and she offers prayers to his idol.

Yep, it’s true. Recently, Padmavathi, an Andhra woman from Prakasam district, built a temple in the memory of her dead husband, Ankireddy, and she is seen offering prayers to his idol every day. And she did this because she considered him a God even when he was alive.

The Andhra woman, Padmavathi, comes from a conservative family and she’s been brought up with the notion that your husband is your God. So, she decided to build him a temple after he allegedly came into her dream a few days after he died in a road accident in 2017. In her dream, Ankireddy, her husband, asked her to build him a temple.

Following her mother’s steps, who also used to worship her father, Padmavathi, built a temple with a marble statue of her husband, Ankireddy. For the last four years, she does puja of him regularly and on special occasions – such as his birthday – anointings are performed. Padmavathi even distributes free food to those in need, every full moon.

Padmavathi, the Andhra woman, her son, Shivshankar Reddy, and Ankireddy’s friend Tirupati Reddy, together help in taking care of the temple services.

To me, this honestly feels weird. I mean loving your partner and respecting them is one thing, but considering them to be God, yeah that is taking it a bit too far. They are humans and this idea that is drilled into all women growing up that their husbands are equivalent to God – really needs to stop. We need to start teaching our women that their partners are their equals and humans. It is only then that they will be a step closer to a balanced relationship.
